Funding Now to Plan for the Future

Over the past nine months a group of parishioners have been meeting to discuss immediate maintenance needs and improvements to St. Paul’s. This will allow us to continue to invite our community into the church, provide a comfortable, welcoming environment, sending them out with a positive impression of our congregation. This handout and this meeting are called to get your input on our project prioritization as well as soliciting your comments on the ability of raising funds required to complete those needs.

THE WHAT

Roof replacement, a main floor bathroom, appropriate for all including the handicapped, window renovation, necessary parking lot improvements, a pavilion for outdoor worship and youth activities.

THE WHY

ROOF – $250,000 – Down payment – 20%

The roof – due to continual leaks and the resulting damage; a polymer “slate like” roof tile has been investigated to replace our 138 year old slate roof. SEE EXAMPLE. It looks like slate, with several alternative designs available, carries a 50 year warranty and along with complete ice guarding and insurance incentives, allows for relatively cost effective replacement, while still meeting National Historic Register requirements, at less than half the cost of actual slate. The committee has visited two parishes with this system, and all agree that it is a viable replacement alternative.

BATHROOM – $50,000

Renovation of the past Rector bathroom – to allow use as a Unisex facility as well as completely compliant handicapped bathroom. Demolition, tiling and plumbing work. This project would also include boiler replacement in the Canterbury House, replacing two present boilers, with one and keeping the best of the old two boilers as a stand-by unit.

WINDOWS – $140,000 – Down payment – 20%

The windows – comprised of 26 superb stained glass windows, 19 which will require repair/renovation, due to failing leading and bulging which will only get worse with time. The last window renovation was conducted in the 1980’s. New protective acrylic will also be included on all windows. A second part of this will move the most historical, highest quality yet least observed window, The Transfiguration Window, located in the archway leading to the Canterbury House, to the north end of the Gallery. This will incorporate a window box, with light diffusing glass and back-lighting, where the present picture of Rev Roger Searle now hangs. This will eliminate the need to cause any exposed wall intrusion, as well as provide more light in the archway, with a high-quality three-piece replacement.

PROJECT

Pavilion $80,000

Columns $50,000

Driveway $33,000

*All extra funds will be used towards the mortgage and used for outreach programs.

TOTAL COST $603,000
